Description: Documents relating to the Chancery Court action brought by the International Finance Society Ltd against Barings, the plaintiffs and defendants being creditors of SB Hale of Buenos Aires.Note: The plaintiffs objected to the action of Barings in transferring to themselves absolutely various property in Argentina and Uruguay belonging to Hale & Co, claiming that the transfers should have been made for the benefit of all the creditors of Hale & Co following the failure to finish work on Buenos Aires Waterworks and the liquidation of the company. The plaintiffs also objected to the method in which Hale & Co had been liquidated in 1893 and their assets taken over by the newly formed River Plate Commercial Co.The documents were presented to counsel by Francis H Baring.See also LEG58-59.Papers relating to the liquidation of Samuel B Hale & Co [HC4.1.71] and the transfer of their real estate to Barings, with letters from Samuel B Hale & Co to Barings. Also includes a balance sheet of Samuel B Hale & Co and the proposal for formation of a limited company to take over the assets and liabilities.
